REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s), Athletic Director, and IHSSA Senior High School Large Group Speech and Drama Coach
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated knowledge of, interest in, and aptitude for coaching public speaking and/or speech events.
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and public relations skills.
- Ability to relate positively with administration, staff, parents, students, and community. Serve as a favorable example with all program participants.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and a desire to lead.
- Monitor and enforce IHSSA eligibility rules, determine student participant selections fairly and consider activities as part of the total education program, encouraging participants to work to their maximum ability in academics as well as in co-curricular programs.
- Maintain proper and exemplary conduct at all times and be responsible for the guidance of students in their charge.
POSITION GOALS:
- The Assistant Speech Coach will assist each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the ability, values, and discipline involved in public speaking and theatre performance.
- The speech coach will provide leadership and direction for each student participant grades nine (9) through twelve (12).
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Every West High IHSSA Coach must be certified as an IHSSA Judge. This is no longer optional.
- Maintain standards of excellence in student performance and conduct.
- Reflect the Speech and Theatre program’s values, expectations, standards of conduct as set forth by the Head Director.
- Involve as many student participants in quality speaking and theatre experiences as possible.
