Title: Transportation Monitor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Classification: Operational Support
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Operational Services
Job Summary: Assist with the supervision and safety of students while being transported to school. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the transportation department.
Hiring Specifications:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Additional training in areas related to scope of responsibility not required but is considered a plus
Certification
- Appropriate State of Iowa license and endorsements required for the vehicle assigned, or ability to obtain after hire
- Appropriate medical qualification
Experience
- At least 18 years of age
- Previous van or bus driving experience is not required but is considered a plus

- Ability to drive a school vehicle as a substitute if a driver is absent

Job Duties:
- Assist in the supervision and support of students to ensure behavioral, health, and safety needs are met; report policy infractions, as appropriate
- Physically assist the driver in loading and unloading students, including students with accommodations such as wheelchairs, safety vests, etc.
- Perform visual safety equipment inspection at the start of each route; including harnesses, wheelchair tie down devices, etc.
- Report all equipment damage and/or repair items using established procedures
- Assist in assuring interior cleanliness and appearance of the school bus
- Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of or damage to property, or failure of mechanical equipment
- Serve as a substitute driver is a driver is absent or unable to drive
- Adhere to District policies/procedures and Department work rules.
- Maintains appropriate behavior of student in the vehicle at all times
- Adheres to district and State policies on physical contact with children
- Attends work on a prompt and regular basis
- Maintains satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees
- Maintains confidentiality
- Completes mandatory trainings and tasks on time as directed
- Assists with other duties as assigned
